Inequality Beyond Income

Two unique illustrations for a report on structural inequality in Latin America & the Caribbeans, by the Inter-American Development Bank’s Research Department.

I wanted these covers to speak to the lived experiences of resource and race inequality. For Concept 1, each mouse faces a different path towards the same goal. However, the white mouse on the left sees a straight path, while the black mouse on the right sees a maze in front of it. Although they may have the same horizontal distance to reach the cheese, the black mouse has to overcome many more obstacles.

Concept 2:
Parachutes

In Concept 2, two figures are dropping from the sky. The white man in the center has a parachute of resources to help him land softly — his gender, and access to healthcare, law, transportation, education, and employment. Meanwhile, the dark green woman in the bottom right only has one balloon — unequal access to all those aforementioned things.
